Set against the vast landscape of world conflict from World War I to contemporary times, four women unite across a century to share their personal stories of active service as doctors in the military.
The play investigates World War I pioneers who, after being denied service in Australia, served with great distinction in Allied hospitals in Europe and elsewhere, outfits staffed predominantly by women. In World War II, at home and abroad, they were determined to serve again as surgeons, radiologists, pathologists and researchers, and were finally granted admission within the Australian Army. From Vietnam to the Middle East, as peacekeepers and in times of humanitarian crisis and war, women doctors continue to serve our military with growing numbers and significant ranks bringing cultural diversity, expertise and humanity to the harrowing task of conflict medicine.
